Your Gridfinity generator makes the file. Let users order the bins.

Every generator ends at the download button. Add an order button next to it: we quote the layout, print it at the production center nearest your user and ship it, at the price you set.

One order, the whole drawer

  • Every bin and baseplate tile is an order item
  • Each bin in its own color, from our catalog
  • Your user pays your price on a hosted checkout
  • Made near your user, shipped with tracking
Gridfinity

Any drawer, one grid

Gridfinity is a modular storage system created by Zack Freedman: bins sit on baseplates built on a 42 mm grid, so any bin fits any drawer laid out in the same units. Generators let anyone size the bins and the baseplate for their own drawer and download the files. The specification.

The step after the download

A generator's users who own a printer print the files. The rest leave with an STL they cannot use, and some pay a maker to do it by hand: custom Gridfinity drawer layouts sell on Etsy from about $45. Example listing. An order button keeps that sale in your generator.

How it works

From a drawer layout to bins at the door

01

Your user lays out a drawer

In your generator, the way it works today: bins, sizes and a baseplate for the drawer.

02

You quote every part

Export each bin and baseplate tile as .stl, .3mf, .obj, .step or .stp, upload it and get its production price.

03

Your user pays your price

One order with every part, in checkout mode at your sales price. Your user pays on a hosted checkout.

04

We print it near them

The bins are printed at the production center nearest your user, checked and shipped with tracking.

Examples from our public OpenAPI contract. A layout is one order with an item per bin and baseplate tile; the checkout link stays open for 24 hours.

Good to know

Bins, baseplates and big drawers

Magnets ship with the bins

Add approved extra parts such as magnets to each order line, and they ship with the printed bins and baseplates.

Tile large baseplates

A drawer-sized baseplate is larger than most printer beds. Split it into tiles, as generators already do, and quote each tile as its own file.

A color per bin

Every order item has its own materials, one per extruder slot, from the PLA and PETG catalog. Tools in red, screws in gray.

Who it is for

Gridfinity generators

Bin, baseplate and lid generators whose users download files they have no printer for.

Tool-tracing apps

Apps that turn a photo of tools into a custom insert, and could ship the insert too.

Drawer organizer configurators

Stores that sell made-to-fit organizers and want orders printed without a farm of their own.

Makers doing layouts by hand

Shops that design custom drawer layouts for customers and print every order themselves today.

Printing Gridfinity layouts, answered

Can my users order Gridfinity bins without owning a printer?

Yes. Your generator makes the files as it does now; you quote them through the API and create an order in checkout mode. Your user pays your price on a hosted checkout and receives the printed bins.

How do I handle a drawer larger than a print bed?

Split the baseplate into tiles that fit a printer bed, as most generators already do, and quote each tile as its own file. Every tile becomes an item on the same order.

Can each bin be a different color?

Yes. Every order item has its own materials, one per extruder slot, from our PLA and PETG catalog, so each bin in a layout can be printed in its own color.

Can you add magnets?

Yes. Add approved extra parts such as magnets to each order line, a set number per printed bin, and they ship with the printed bins and baseplates.

What does a printed layout cost?

Each part has a production price from its quote, and shipping is priced by destination and volumetric weight. In checkout mode you set the price your user pays and keep the difference when the order is completed.

Do I need approval before my users can order?

Yes, once. Send your first 10 ready quotes for review. After that, every new layout your generator makes can be ordered as soon as its quotes are ready.

Can I sell prints of any Gridfinity design?

Only designs you have the rights to sell. Gridfinity designs and their remixes carry different licenses, so check the license of anything your generator builds on.
